Synopsis of Shamanic Journey
Participant(s) set an intention for this experience by writing, with integrity, what she/he wishes to accomplish. Keep the intention short and to the point. It is best not to use run on sentences. Avoid stating an intention by beginning with the word “why”. You are encourage to make your Journey be about YOU and not about seeking change in someone else.
Examples of written intentions:
Prior to beginning the Shamanic Journey participants are led through breathing and toning/throat singing exercise to raise one’s vibration and awareness in preparation for the journey.
Participant(s) have the option of lying down on their blanket, sleeping bag or recline in a comfortable chair with Leotha leading a visualization exercise to a “safe place” in nature or any place one choose. This comfortable position assists participant(s) in relaxing deeper and may allow guidance/visions to appear clearer.
Shortly thereafter, Leotha begin his sacred drumming which allow participant(s) to go into an altered state of consciousness. This state of consciousness usually allow for more vivid communication with guides, angels and/or power animals.
Once participant(s) are called back to ordinary reality, time is spent journaling, sketching and reflecting on an extraordinary experience.
In a group Journey, once participants have finished journaling and/or sketching a group share and process discussion occurs. For a personal Journey, reflection, processing is done with Q&A.
Prior to closure, participant(s) write in their journal an intention they wish to manifest for them self in the immediate future.
NOTE: Your experience starts when you decide to participate in this Sacred Journey!
There are many versions of what Shamanism is, therefore this is just one written by John Mulkey www.shamanswisdom.com Contrary to what many believe, shamanism is not a religion, nor even a religious practice. It is instead a spiritual path that is compatible with the beliefs of many religions. The term shamanism actually comes from the Tungus people of
Many of those we have referred to as witch doctors, healers, magicians, sorcerers, mystics, and medicine men/women are shamans, although being a witch doctor, healer, etc. does not necessarily mean that one is also a shaman. The distinction is that shamans are agents of change. They journey into alternate realities to seek the counsel of spirits to help with work in this plane, and use their knowledge and abilities to assist their clan or group.
Today, you can find shamans in many cultures and religions and many lifestyles, from the jungles of the Amazon basin to the boardrooms of some of our largest corporations. We all have a connection with shamanic tradition. If we trace our roots far enough into the past, we will discover our shamanic heritage.
At the core of shamanism is a strong relationship with Nature and an understanding that our ultimate survival depends upon this relationship. Shamans work with animals, plants, stones, the waters, wind, and with the spirits that reside therein. Their awareness of the sanctity of life and their ability to communicate with a multitude of life forms gives them knowledge that is otherwise unavailable. Traveling in the spirit realm they receive wisdom and great power allowing them to overcome seemingly unconquerable obstacles.
For those who wish to follow the path of the shaman, you need only to make the commitment to listen to the guidance of your core self, that part within that is aware of its oneness with all things. Making a connection with the core self brings understanding, wisdom, and great peace, for to peel away the layers of deceit upon which our self-view is based is to recognize the Divine Self, to become one with the Creator. The awareness may take a minute or a lifetime, either of which is perfect. But one so changed will never again see the world as they have in the past. With a clear view of their place in the Universe they will discover freedom from the pain that never was. Feeling at peace with oneself and being at one with the Universe.
Michael Harner, the author of The Way Of The Shaman and is the founder of the Foundation For Shamanic Studies http://www.shamanism.org describes Shamanism as; Over tens of thousands of years, our ancient ancestors all over the world discovered how to maximize human abilities of mind and spirit for healing and problem-solving. The remarkable system of methods they developed is today known as "shamanism," a term that comes from a Siberian tribal word for its practitioners: "shaman" (pronounced SHAH-mahn). Shamans are a type of medicine man or woman especially distinguished by the use of journeys to hidden worlds otherwise mainly known through myth, dream, and near-death experiences.
